My job moved me to the Fredericksburg area in March 2009. I was looking for some sort of outlet for fun and exercise, and one of my clients mentioned that she started taking hand dancing from Kevin. I looked him up on the web and located the class. It was structured so that anyone could learn, with or without dance experience; and it was great fun. After my first class, I was hooked. Kevin does a great job of breaking down the steps in an easy to learn format, and is willing to work with anyone who is struggling as well. I moved to the Washington DC area in April 2010, but I continue to take hand dance in DC thanks to Kevin. He assisted me in getting into another class and helped me to become a graduate student. While in this class I still had the opportunity to occasionally work with Kevin. He has consistently been there to support me and assist me to further raise my level of dance. I would suggest that anyone in the Fredericksburg and Stafford area look up Smoother than Smooth Hand Dance Co. Kevin’s professionalism can not be beat.

I’m a 72 year old retired educator. When a much younger girlfriend asked me to join her in a hand-dancing class called Smoother Than Smooth which was being offered in our hometown of Stafford, Virginia, I really didn’t know what to expect. I thought I was “too old a dog to learn new tricks”. “Besides,” I said to myself, “It’s just the old jitterbug that I had learned as a teen many years ago.” Well, was I in for a surprise! Not only did I join a diverse group (age- wise and experience-wise) of eager would-be hand dancers, I also got the DANCERCISE experience of my life!!! The mental and physical activities have truly rejuvenated me. I look forward to each class where our energetic and professional instructors, Kevin and Dana, teach and demonstrate each new step. We work individually, in pairs, and in small groups. After only ten (10) weeks, I feel like a new and much younger version of myself, and I’m actually hand-dancing with a lot of style and grace. I also met some great folks and gained some new friendships. I’m eagerly anticipating moving to the intermediate class and its culminating graduation program where I can show off my “smoother than smooth” moves to all of my family and friends.

I really enjoy the Hand Dance lessons taught by Kevin. Everyone is so sociable, friendly, and non-judgemental. Classes are challenging, but in a good way. So when I’m on the dance floor, my partner won’t be bored.

In addition to classic moves, Kevin also teaches good technique that is just as relevant in other dance styles like Latin and ballroom. I used to have what some ladies called a “soft” lead. It was a nice way of saying, “you aren’t leading.” Now, I have more confidence that I can lead so my partner will be the “picture,” and I will be her “frame.”

I really appreciate all the friends I’ve made in class and especially thank Kevin for bringing this dance opportunity to the Fredericksburg area.

I am delighted to submit this letter to Smoother than Smooth as a testimonial about my participation in Hand Dancing.

In January 2008, I read an advertisement in our local newspaper here in Fredericksburg about Hand Dancing classes. At that time, the classes were being conducted in a small coffee shop in town. Out of curiosity, I went to the coffee shop one Saturday and observed the dancing by Intermediate students. From the moment I walked into the shop, heard the music and saw the instruction, I knew this was something I wanted to participate in. My new adventure took off with my signing up for the next Beginner classes.

My instructors, Kevin Tisdale and Dana Martin, always made the dance lessons enjoyable and they helped wherever someone had difficulty. Whenever we have mastered learning a particular dance step, our instructors are complimentary and happy to see us succeed; their encouragement is so appreciated by everyone because all are so eager to learn. I completed the Beginner classes, then the Intermediate classes, and continue attending the Intermediate Workshops.

I love the graceful and stylish moves of Hand Dancing. Any of the dancing events I have attended with other graduates and followers of the dance have also been enjoyable and fun. Our class field trip and graduation events were two highlights for me; I loved being a part of it all!

I truly wish to express my appreciation to Kevin and Dana, for their encouragement and direction in my learning process … and I want to continue learning and becoming more skilled. I also want to mention my classmates; we have developed wonderful friendships, enjoy the dance and each other’s progress.

I went to work in the DC area in Jan of 09, and came to learn how to Hand Dance-DC style at that time. I love hand dancing. I had the opportunity to meet Kevin at a Friday night hand dance social and was very impressed with Kevin’s style, moves and most of all his controlled gracefulness of this dance. Kevin informed me that he was an instructor and where his classes were located. The very next day I was there and that is where I began learning how to hand dance. Smoother than Smooth with Kevin’s instructions has taught me how to put together some amalgamations along with various moves to enhance my dance.

I’ve been dancing less than a year, a lot of the friends I’ve made through this dance often ask me where I got a certain move from. I owe what I’ve learned to the Smoother than Smooth Dance Co.

I live in the Atlanta Ga. area but whenever I get to the DC area I always make certain I catch a Saturday class with Smoother than Smooth. Kevin’s method of teaching and quality of professionalism has helped me immensely with my dance. I would suggest that anyone in the Fredericksburg area that wants to learn how to hand dance start taking classes with Smoother than Smooth. Kevin is and excellent instructor along with the ladies that assist him.
